A proper match will result in quality output which will give you the feel of theater at home. The confusion arises when one has to make a choice between HDMI cables and component cables. Both are widely used for home entertainment systems.
HDMI stands for high definition multimedia interface. These cables are capable of transmitting audio as well as video signals simultaneously which the analogue Scart leads could not manage. They are designed to provide unbreakable signal connectivity along with longevity. If you coat it with gold, it will improve its performance. It is made to support any format of video signal for your TV or PC. They are compatible with almost any home entertainment systems and thus come in handy while connecting them to each other. The cost range varies according to the grade.
The format on which the component cables are based on is analog format. Thus they are not compatible with HDMI cables. The component cables have voltage signals which form a wave pattern due to the analog signal; the changes occurred in height is a key factor. These component connections are quite underrated though they are capable of delivering superior quality picture; good as HDMI cables. The longer component cables are more promising; 25 feet or more.
Both HDMI cable and component cable are good in what they meant for, which one to go for is totally up to the owner of the home entertainment system. But if you want to have just one cable do the job then go with the HDMI cable.
