Remodeling Your Old Furniture Into a White Bathroom Cabinet

Published by Montgomery Decorator under Cabinets

Bathroom cabinets help you organize the stuff you have in your bathroom so the room won’t be messy and that it will be pretty much safe and convenient to use. There are various cabinets that you can utilize as a storage furniture. One famous example is the bathroom medicine cabinet. It is something that’s commonly seen in that particular room.
They are so-called medicine cabinets because they are intended to hold medicines and other medical supplies including sleeping pills, vitamins, painkillers and bandages. However, other stuff has found a place in that cabinet as well. Dental supplies like mouthwash, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss and the like are kept in there too.
Even those products such as shaving cream, lotion, facial scrub, hair blower and hair curler are now being conveniently stored in those mirrored bathroom medicine cabinets. But aside from being a useful place to store items that you want to keep hidden and out of easy reach of your children, these bathroom cabinets can be a symbol of style and can help provide an elegant look and feel to your whole bathroom as well.
You may want to consider having a white bathroom cabinet to achieve that effect. White is usually the standard color theme for most bathrooms but having a white cabinet over the corner sink, for example, with an existing theme like nature or country is still great to look at. It’s nice enough to support whatever theme you currently have for that room.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to buy a white bathroom cabinet out of your local home improvement store or through online or order custom ones. You can still use your old one if it’s still sturdy and functional. All you have to do is just remodel it by simply painting it with a white coat. That way, you don’t have to spend a lot but still get the same result that you desire.
But before you start doing the remodeling of your bathroom cabinet, you should take into serious thought and careful consideration some important details. First is the kind of material that the cabinet is made of, whether plastic, stainless steel or wood. If it’s wood like cedar, pine, oak or others, don’t forget to sand it first before actually applying the coat so that it would be an easier job.
Earlier, it is mentioned that the most common furniture found in the bathroom is the medicine cabinet. But there are two other types that you can remodel into newer and fresher white bathroom cabinets. These are the wall-mounted cabinets and the freestanding vanity cabinets, both are used to keep other items like bathroom accessories, extra towels, extra tissues, linen papers, cleansers and the like.
Since the wall-mounted cabinets are built into the wall, one thing that you can do to have an easier painting and remodeling job is to detach the cabinet doors first and just fasten them back after the paint has completely dried up. You can also do this with the freestanding type.

Due to the increase in demand, RTA cabinets come in the most popular range of sizes, designs and finishes. Tools are not even a problem as often the only one you’ll need is a screwdriver. Most set of RTA cabinetry need nothing more than screws, glue, and wood dowels, all of which are already supplied within the package that comes together with a comprehensive instruction manual.

-RTA cabinet units cost just a fraction of the price of custom made cabinets but can be just as beautiful and durable as any pieces you can see on showrooms.

Cabinet Hardware Materials Decoded

Published by Montgomery Decorator under Cabinets

If you’re looking for new cabinet hardware but don’t know where to begin, you’re not alone. Cabinet hardware is available in infinite designs and countless finishes, making the prospect of finding the right style both exciting and overwhelming. Understanding the advantages and drawbacks of each cabinet hardware material can make it easier to narrow down your options so that you can find what you’re looking for a bit more quickly.
Here are some things to consider when choosing cabinet hardware:
-Brass is a material that is available in a wide range of finishes, which makes it a popular choice for homes of most designs. As its name suggests, polished brass offers a high gloss golden finish that is suitable for a rustic-themed room. Polished brass can also be found in conjunction with polished chrome or other silver-toned metals which provides a more contemporary look. In contrast, antique brass offers a matted gold-brown hue reminiscent of times gone by. Antique brass is often textured in some way, which provides for an additional style element.
-Bronze is a metal that offers unique advantages because many forms of bronze have a ‘living finish’ which matures over time. Oil rubbed bronze hardware is among the most popular finishes in recent years because it provides a classic look that is simultaneously luxurious and sophisticated. More expensive oil rubbed bronze hardware may slowly change color or scratch over time, to give each piece its own unique look.
-Chrome is a silver finish that is often applied on top of another metal to create a cool silver finish. Polished chrome provides a shinier finish than brushed chrome, though the finish can range from extremely high-gloss to moderately shiny. Chrome hardware does not tarnish or chip and is designed to provide years of stylish usage.
-As the metal often connected with the bottom of kitchen pots and cookware, copper is famous for its reddish hue. Antique copper, which has a dull, matted look, is one of the most popular copper finishes, though some copper hardware can be found with a brighter color.
-A popular metal for home design products because it is easy to work with and has a timeless design, iron is an obvious choice for the production of cabinet hardware. Additionally, iron makes for extremely affordable decorative hardware because it is so easy to mold and to produce. Homeowners can match iron cabinet hardware to wrought iron furniture and light fixtures for an upscale look.
-Nickel cabinet hardware is quite similar to chrome hardware in that it is a thin metallic finish that is applied over hardware made from another metal. Nickel hardware has a slightly warmer hue than chrome hardware, but is available in similar brushed and polished finishes. Consumers should beware that satin nickel cabinet hardware which is the most popular form of matte nickel hardware may dull over time.
-Pewter hardware is a trendy finish because it is soft enough to create intricate hardware designs and sturdy enough to withstand the test of time. Pewter hardware is available in a variety of finishes from verdigris to chocolate and nearly every color in between. In its most common form, pewter hardware has a dull grey finish which can blend seamlessly into most spaces. Pewter hardware costs slightly more than nickel and iron, but is designed to last forever.
-Plastic cabinet hardware is among the most affordable materials on the market today. Plastic hardware is available in a variety of colors, shapes and styles and is ideal for homeowners looking to match a specific color scheme without choosing a generic metallic finish.
-A common choice for cutlery, faucets and sinks, stainless steel is also a wonderful choice for cabinet hardware. Stainless steel provides a contemporary style and will complement any modern space. Although it is moderately expensive, many owners of stainless steel cabinet hardware agree that it is worth the price because it will match other kitchen fixtures perfectly.
-Wood is perhaps the most natural material for cabinet hardware, and it can be painted to match nearly any color scheme. Wood cabinet hardware may require a metal insert in order to ensure that it is installed securely. An ideal option for those seeking a country look, wood can be found with metallic accents or as a decorative piece all on its own.

How to Choose the Right Door For Your New Room Addition

Published by Montgomery Decorator under Doors

First impressions make the best impressions. The style of your door sets the tone of your house and gives it curb appeal. Pick a door that will blend into the rest of your house An example would be to have a raised panel door on your house, if your house is a colonial one.

If your house is a cape cod then a more simple design for the door would be appropriate. Doors come in different materials, wood, composite material, and metal. Also available are solid core doors for the exterior and hollow core doors for the interior.

When it comes to closets or utility rooms you may want bi-fold doors with louvers, they are attractive, low cost, and provide ventilation. Another consideration is to include french or sliding doors to the outside. These doors tend to open up your view to the outside, provide extra light, and seem to enlarge your room. You can buy them in aluminum or wood for easy painting. Make sure your general contractor installs the doors while he is building the room addition, hanging a door is not a job for a novice.

One last and important detail before your contractor installs your exterior door. Make sure he installs flashing around the top, sides and bottom of the door. This will keep the cold, rain, and snow from entering the interior.

These tips will assist you to make the right decisions for your room addition doors. It will also make the general contractors work a lot easier if you know what you want.

What Are Double Glazed uPVC Windows?

Published by Montgomery Decorator under Windows

The letters uPVC is an acronym for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. PVC pipes are made up of plasticized polyvinyl chloride. Unplasticized is also referred to as rigid PVC. In construction, uPVC is a material used instead of wood sometimes. It requires less maintenance than wood does. UPVC windows are windows with surrounding uPVC.

When talking about windows uPVC just refers to double glazed windows. This is because the frame is often made out of uPVC. Double glazed windows, also called insulating glass units, or IGUs, are used for insulation, They help protect against temperature and sound.

Double glazed windows are windows that are made out of two pieces of glass. The glass is put into frames that sits them just a tiny bit apart from each other. This creates a space in between. The space is filled with with vacuum, or with some kind of gas that insulates. Of different kinds of insulating windows, uPVC windows are one of the easiest to see through.

Double glazed windows insulate by filling the gap in the windows with a non-conductive gas. Vacuum is also used. Sound doesn’t travel through vacuum, so less sound will be able to get through the vacuum and into the house. Also heat and cold don’t travel well through vacuum, so they are also stopped. This is the same principle as vacuum thermoses use.

The best insulator is a vacuum, but very few uPVC windows use this. That is because the window has to be very strong to contain a vacuum. A partial vacuum can be used, but this is uncommon. A partial vacuum means they have removed some of the air, but not all of it. Usually a gas is used though. This can be argon, xenon, or krypton.

These three gasses are used because they are not harmful and safe to use. They are odorless, and have no color, so they don’t distort the view. The cheapest of these three gasses is argon, and it is what is usually used for uPVC windows. Krypton is used for windows with a very tight space, or for windows that need to be very high performing. Xenon is the most expensive of these gasses, and it is rarely used at all.

The reason to use uPVC windows is to help improve the efficiency of your house, and save money on energy. Any time you are trying to keep the inside of your house a different temperature from the outside you are using energy to do so. Insulation makes it so you don’t have to use as much. This can save you money on your electric bill, and makes your house more environmentally friendly.

Are Fiberglass Windows Better Than Vinyl?

Published by Montgomery Decorator under Windows

If you are looking for ways to improve the cost of your electric bill in both the summer and winter time, then you should take a look at your windows and see what kind of materials that your frames and supports are made of. Why? Well, if you are using wood, aluminum, or vinyl windows, then you are not using your most energy efficient option. Fiberglass replacement windows are the perfect choice for those of you who are focused on your energy consumption and shrinking your carbon footprint.

The first thing that you should know about fiberglass replacement windows is the reason that they are so energy efficient. Fiberglass can take on the properties of wood, however, they insulate better than wood does. This make them a better option than wood. What’s more, fiberglass will last much longer than your wood windows will, making them a better investment for your home. Additionally, fiberglass will react to weather the same way that glass does, ensuring that the frame does not harm the glass (reducing its effectiveness) in extreme weather conditions. It is better than vinyl as well because vinyl will crack in extreme weather conditions, which means they will have to be replaced.

If you have large windows in your home, such as double or triple pain windows, or sliding glass doors, then you will find that fiberglass replacement windows are the strongest option for hanging and support. Fiberglass has the strength of metal, which makes it ideal for your larger windows. What’s more, the fiberglass will not be affected overtime and you will not see a sag around the frame, which you will sometimes find with other options.

Lastly, the appearance of fiberglass replacement windows is better than that of vinyl or aluminum windows. That is because you have two options for your fiberglass. You can get the fiberglass as is and then paint it to whatever color that you want. The second option is to have a wood veneer bonded to the fiberglass. For people who love the look of wood, this is an excellent option and the veneer will not affect the quality of the fiberglass or how it works for your windows.

Change a Room’s Atmosphere Using Venetian Blinds

Published by Montgomery Decorator under Windows

There are many ways to cover the windows in your home, from vertical blinds, to shutter, curtain, shades and blinds. One very common method is the ‘horizontal window blind’, which is commonly called the Venetian blind. These are composed of thin slats of various materials, which are threaded on a ‘ladder’ of string which is rigged to a control that permits you to shift the angle and tilt of these slats. This kinds of control mechanism separates Venetian blinds from other types of vertical blinds. Homes in the United States and around the world are using Venetian blinds more and more.

Many of these include slats which are made from a special alloy of aluminum, which is then enameled in order to maintain their coloration for a longer period of time. Other parts of these blinds are often made from durable steel and plastic materials that are designed to last for a long time.

Venetian blinds are generally easy to install into a recessed window frame, or alternately fastened to the ace. You can choose from slats of different sizes, also. Popular widths for these slats are 50mm, 35mm, 25mm and 16mm. Typically, slats are constructed from 3.2mm (or 8 gauge) aluminum, and inspected for durability and strength. These include cord locks which are crash-proof, an enamel finish which is baked on, and versatility when it comes to privacy and allowing the passage of sunlight. Venetian blinds in the 50mm size can be purchased with designed woven tape, so they can be customized to match any interior colors already in the room.

When these Venetian blinds are drawn, you can adapt them to multiple heights. These can be turned or dropped, which means that you can adjust them to have complete privacy inside your house. You can adjust these so that you may see out and others may see inside, but you can also adjust them for complete privacy. They allow permit you to adjust the ambiance in your room according to the angle of the sun.

You may wish to adjust the slats so they are completely horizontal, enabling you to see clearly outside and for light to comfortably come inside. Venetians permit you to control the room’s general atmosphere. Venetian blinds are usually priced reasonably, simple to install and allow you to alter the atmosphere and ambiance of a room. It’s no surprise that blinds have become the most popular window covering option.

Of course, these will also have to be cleaned. Venetian blinds can be cleaned most efficiently when they are removed and laid outside on a large, dry blanket or towel. You’ll also need a bucket full of water and soap. Use a brush with soft bristles to scrub the blinds. Once you’ve completely cleaned one side, turn the blinds over so that the rear is facing upwards. Repeat the scrubbing process on this side. Finally, spray the blinds off using a hose. Hang the blinds from a clothesline to completely dry them off. If there are any remaining spots, simply touch them up with a little more soap and water.

If you would like to know more about Venetian Blinds then check out http://venetianblindscleaning.com/ which has tons of useful information on maintenance, repair, and as the title suggest venetian blinds cleaning. Definitely worth checking out if you are interested in replacing your blinds.

Small Shed Plans Unlock the Secret to Your Storage Problem

Are you serious about building your own quality shed with proven, professional small shed plans? Do you have what it takes and the skills needed to build your own shed or should you just buy one?

I don’t know about you but the reason I built my own shed was that I needed more storage area so I could clean out my garage and finally have the needed room to work on my projects I had on the go. I was also renting a storage area that was costing me hundreds of dollars a year.

I always wanted a small shed in the back yard to store my junk but never had the money to buy one. I also thought about building one but I had no idea where to start. If this sounds like you then I know how you feel and I felt the same maddening feeling every time I tripped over something in the garage, but what I found was a way to build a shed for half the price of buying one.

A good friend of mine told me about a shed that he had built a couple years back. He used some small shed plans that he found online and was very surprised at the quality and how easy they were to follow. He told me that they were dirt-cheap plus they came with over 12,000 other shed and woodworking plans. He said all the plans that he had used were so easy to use that anyone could use them.

I decided it was worth a shot and bought the plans. To my surprise, they were very easy to use. They came with proven plans, a step-by-step guide and detailed blue prints that made building anything a breeze. The best part is that I finally have the room I needed to do some work in my garage. I have also made some extra money using some of the other 12,000 plans that I got, building and selling sheds, picnic tables, doghouses, bird feeders and almost anything you can build with wood.

Here are some of the things that I did not know about building a shed and would have never thought about unless I got the plans.

o You need to make sure the area you are going to put your shed is flat and level.

o It is very important to create a solid and long lasting foundation.

o There are 3 basic types of foundations, concrete, pier and beam and skids.

o Depending where you live, you might need a permit to build your shed so check with your local building codes.

o How to cut and measure the angles for the studs on the rake walls.

o How to join the trusses to the walls

My shed was one of the best investments I ever made and if you plan to build your own shed, I highly recommend buying quality small shed plans. Not only will it save you time and money it will make the job so easy that you will wish you had of done it sooner.

Are you about to making these 3 classic mistakes that will double the cost of using small shed plans? I hate to admit it but I made all three of them myself! Find out what they are and how to avoid them by visiting http://www.ShedsMadeEasy.info
