Display Your Favorite Collectibles With a Wall Plate Holder

Purchasing a wall plate holder can be a daunting task if you don’t know where to look for what you need. A plate display that mounts on a wall has to have the right look and feel for the piece or pieces you want to display but also, it must have a certain level of mounting stability so that there are no “accidents” from it falling on the floor due to poor workmanship or improper installation. Below are some steps or ideas you can take to help you through the process of buying a wall plate holder.

For the sake of discussion, this article discusses wall plate holders used to display decorative plates not holders used for storing dishes used on a daily level. Generally cabinet dish holders have a different functionality and must be installed to the studs of the wall because of the amount of weight they must hold.

Then first thing you must do is identify where you want to display the piece. If the plate(s) you want to display are in a high traffic area, a small, flatter design or height profile would best be suited. For example, a large wrought iron plate holder with intricate designs are a magnet for little fingers and snagging onto clothing.

If you have a very large wall, foot traffic that is of some distance from the wall, have four or greater plates to display then a well designed wall plate holder with solid construction will fit the bill. Some of the larger plate holders have other decorative pieces that help to enhance the plate. A wall plate holder with candles can really set off a plate display like no other wall mounted item.

Most quality decorative plate holders are black wrought iron that is not painted – for a reason. Because there is a glazing process used for most plates, the risk of oxidation is too great if the holder is painted and it comes in contact with the plate. If the plates are of antique quality, usually felt is used to establish safe contact with the holder. More simple wall plate hangers or table top plate display holders are coated with vinyl so the plate does not move in the holder.

For a more contemporary or craftsman design, a wooden wall plate rack with a low profile may fit the bill. A design that holds the plate on an edge while keeping the plates stable with dowels are usually used in situations where the viewing area has a more minimalist, contemporary look. There is a real art in displaying antique plates in a design area that has a contemporary decor.

Keeping heirloom plates in a box in the attic surely defeats the purpose of challenging your design ideas and creativity. If you look on the internet, study and follow design concepts from several interior decorators who arrive at home decor integrations you enjoy, you will find the wall plate holder design that makes your display look magnificent!

How Metal-Steel Soap is Built to Help You Clean Your Kitchenware

Every time you tune into your favorite channel you might be watching a streamed ad of some multinational (And hyped too!) brand of Stainless steel soap. And, if you do care for your utensils, and also you have hygiene concerns, then you will need to have one.

THE ‘stainless steel soap’ can be defined as a hard-cleansing soap for tems, which most of the times comes in the form of a soap called ‘soap cake’ or simply ‘cake’. You need it because you desperately want to neutralize or remove the grease or dirt and also bad-looking marks and bad odor that develop due to the use of the kitchenware. The form of the soap is very ergonomic and nice looking; in reality.

Why and how this really works is the subject of informative discussion and though it is known, some experts have different opinion about how well does this product works. These soaps are mostly advised to be used with water; thus it is more likely that the sulfurous ingredients dissolve straightly inside the water and subsequently affect the steel (or metal) of your favorite kitchenware. A number of such soaps have more odor killers in proportion than most or all of the ingredients.

Stainless steel is composed of chromium and iron, and holds a layer of the chromium oxide upon the surface. The metal oxides are generally Lewis acids, which rapidly catalyzes and promotes oxidation. Both chromium and Iron oxides could be used as an oxidation catalyst. Nevertheless, they are effective when it comes to the manufacturing field. The oxidations of pleasant scents reduce the sulfur ingredient in the degree of 180 C. and to insure the occurrence of that; the ingredients should be absorbed at the oxide surface of the metal (here, stainless steel).

So, stainless steel soap is an effective home utility, but you’ve got to be cautious while choosing one and using it.

How to Create a Black & White Retro Kitchen

Are you looking for a new theme for your kitchen? Consider a black-and-white retro theme. This style has become a classic, even though it’s a retro theme from way back when. If you’re considering a retro theme for your kitchen, then here are some tips to get you started.

Use Red as an Accent Color in the Kitchen
By using red as an accent color to the black and white scheme, you will make your retro kitchen look more authentic. Adding touches of red will bring some color and interest into the decor, yet will still help you keep the retro feeling. Have you ever seen a black-and-white diner or kitchen from years ago? They almost always incorporate red into the design. You can decide how much red you end up using in the kitchen. You can add smaller touches, such as with items like placemats and window treatments, or larger accents as with a backsplash or the color of a wall.

Flooring Options for a Retro Kitchen
For a retro kitchen, a black-and-white tiled floor will probably be your best option. You can definitely enhance that retro look by creating an alternating pattern of black and white tiles, which will give the room that old-diner feel. If you’re working with a limited budget, look for laminate flooring with a black-and-white checkered pattern. In a retro kitchen design, it’s usually best to avoid wood floors. But if you’re set on that type of flooring, then opt for a darker-colored wood. Then you always have the option of adding at least one black, white, or red area rug on top of the wood floor to complement the retro look.

Cabinets for a Retro Kitchen
It’s also a good idea to stay away from wood cabinets, just like the flooring. Rather, paint the cabinets white. Or depending on your wall color and how daring you want to be, you might consider painting them black. Retro pull handles in silver make great accents for the cabinets. A great way to get really creative is to make your own one-of-a-kind cabinet pulls, hand painting them with a checkered or geometric design.

Choosing Appliances for a Retro Kitchen
Refrigerators back in the day were white, and thus most kitchens had white appliances. Nowadays, you can play around with your appliance options a bit, as there are so many of them. Stainless steel appliances, for instance, would look great with a retro kitchen style. If you haven’t used that much black in the rest of the room, you might also go with black appliances. After all, you don’t need to completely limit yourself to retro options, but rather you can give your black-and-white retro kitchen a modern twist.

A black-and-white retro theme in the kitchen can really lend a unique look to the area. Just be sure to keep the room comfortable and inviting as well as stylish, as your family will be spending a lot of time in there.

Simple Steps to Refinishing Kitchen Cabinets

On occasion, due to lack of funds, time or resources, many homeowners settle to refinish their existing kitchen cabinets. Before refinishing kitchen cabinets, it’s important to ensure that your kitchen cabinets are strong so they may last another 5 or 10 years. So that refinishing them is worthwhile.

It is important to make sure that the bottoms of your existing kitchen cabinets are dry, and free from rot. Before refinishing kitchen cabinets, look under the sink or near dishwashers, as they may show the most signs of wear and tear. If the bottoms of your cabinets are rotten, they need to be replaced. This should be done before starting your project to refinish. If your shelves are also affected, they will need to be replaced as well.

The exterior, interior, and handles of the cabinets need to be cleaned thoroughly. Wipe your cabinets until all grime accumulated over the years (if any) is all gone. After wiping up all surface dust and grime, you can also use sandpaper to lightly penetrate embedded gunk. Doing this is very important as you could leave marks and  blemishes which will show through your finished result.

Before removing your cabinet doors and hardware, label each component so it can be put back in it’s exact spot after refinishing. Then after all cabinet doors, handles, and shelves are removed it’ll be time to sand off the old paint and varnish so you may apply new. Don’t forget you’ll want to paint 2 and sometimes 3 layers of paint or varnish. Sanding, painting, or varnishing the interiors, face frames, and sides will also be needed. Once all done air dry your wonderfully new looking Cabinets for about 24 hours before use.

In order to replace the doors, a carpenter’s expertise is essential. It should be ensured that the doors shut properly. This provides a new look to the cabinet without having to go in for a major or expensive makeover.

Formica Countertops

Plastic laminate counter tops are a good way to create a useful work surface while adding to the decor of your kitchen. Brand names include Formica (obviously), Wilson Art, and Pionite, just to name a few. For kitchen countertops, this is your cheapest alternative by far.

Laminates are available in 2 thicknesses. Standard thickness (approx. 1/16″) is very durable but won’t bend without cracking. They come in so many colors and patterns that you’re only problem in selecting one will be too many choices.

What they call “post-forming” laminates (approx. 1/32″ thick) can be bent, in the event that you’re using rounded edges (like bull noses) on your kitchen countertops. This process can only be done in a factory, using a machine that applies heat to the laminate while bending it. There is not as great a selection of colors and designs with post-formed laminates as there is with standard. So be sure to ask about availability if you want a top with a rounded edge.

Keep in mind that the thinner laminate will be more susceptible to cracking if you drop something heavy onto it.

Manufacturers are always improving their products. Recently, Wilson Art introduced a HD (high definition) series that looks very good. If your pocketbook is an issue, laminate kitchen countertops are the way to go. It’s also easy to clean and stain resistant.

On the negative side, it can be scratched or scorched, and if water gets between the laminate and the wood underlayment (like at the sink), it will expand and separate.

So use a drop-in sink with a lip which should be properly sealed by the installer. This will minimize the chances of separation, but limits your sink choices.

Charles Gueli invites you to ask questions about formica countertops and take advantage of the resources on http://www.continuous-home-improvement-help.com, where guidance, information and support are always available – helping homeowners make better decisions.
