Steel Garage Buildings – Pros and Cons

Steel buildings are completely made of steel while steel frame buildings have only the inner structure made from steel. The outer portion of the building such as the siding and the roof can be of other materials. A steel frame garage may have resemblance to any regular wooden garage. Pondering into steel garage buildings, we could seek out some advantages and disadvantages.

Building a garage using steel is definitely cheaper than constructing a conventional garage made of wood. This is one advantage where owners can save on the construction cost. Comparatively, steel is much sturdier than wood. Steel is strong and do not require additional support. Its design and structure are naturally strong thus they provide greater support than the wood. Little maintenance is required and the challenge is only the building part.

Steel structures are multipurpose. They can be utilized to house farming equipments, be used as a large storage sheds, making a workshop or you can build an area for your kids’ band practice. Besides, steel may not necessarily appear to be steel. You can have your garage made of steel yet appear as other designs, colors and textures. The outer modification can be altered according to your personalize preferences.

Steel structures are also lighter compared to other materials such as brick, wood or concrete. Steel also offer the trait of fire resistance. It is definitely much safer than wood garages and allows lower insurance costs as well. You may obtain a tax credit as many steel garage buildings are energy efficient buildings. Steel is also resistant to damage. It does not easily warped or bent if there is power forced on it. It does not get wet with the presence of water; neither does it attract termites or fungus.

However, steel garage buildings may need certain equipments to build. You will need a garage kit and some effort to get your garage erected. Moreover, steel is a good heat absorbent thus it can absorb and dissipate heat very quickly. It will become rusty if damaged so you may need to apply some protection if it is scratched or dented.

Why Use Steel For Commercial Buildings?

Every building is different from one another, all designed to meet a particular demand. Being specifically true in the case of business buildings, corporate and business people often deliver a high requirement for their buildings. They certainly will not opt for the box-like houses lining up across a street. All they want is uniqueness. However, in order to meet the criteria of these people, the fundamental material must be strong. It is definitely not an easy task to achieve perfection in both architectural stability and aesthetic beauty.

Commercial steel buildings are becoming more prominent as the selection for most constructors due to the variety of structural and aesthetical advantages of steel. Due to the ongoing technological advances in the manufacturing and fabricating sectors, the steel prices are declining although the technology becomes better. Steel buildings have become an excellent choice for construction companies to keep their business alive as the trend has transformed from the conventional wood into the modern steel. It is not going to leave the building fashion for the meantime as people are slowly realizing the benefits of the steel.

Commercial steel buildings are also a great rival compared to other buildings as they support of the act of going green. There is no deforestation needed; thus reducing the effect of global warming. There is no need to spend tones of water to construct buildings when almost half of the globe lacks access of clean water. You do not need to spend absurd amount of money on the usage of electricity or gas for heating or cooling purposes as steel buildings have the natural attribute of regulating the interior temperature. All the benefits made steel the perfect resources in the construction field.

In architectural wise, commercial steel buildings can withstand fire, snow and strong winds. They are tough and offer high resistant towards disasters. The fireproof trait of steel can help reduce fire insurance premiums as well. In terms of physical beauty, steel buildings can be built according to your design preferences. You can have your own customized designs, making your building unique and outstanding among the many other buildings.

Choosing the Best Doming Resin For Your Project

The economy, the environment, and numerous other causes are prompting more people than ever to learn new skills, and to tackle projects that they would have paid someone else to do in year’s past, themselves. Whether it’s repainting the house, or fixing up a sagging fence, folks today are finding ways to do more with less, and to be more resourceful. Of course, this extend beyond just household chores and maintenance. The world of arts and crafts, forever the realm of do-it-yourselfers, is experiencing a surge in interest, as more people have taken to creating their own decorations and jewelry items.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Not only are ranks of artists increasing, the new additions seem to have brought with them a new flair for doing things in ways not before seen. Without  much further ado, we’ll move on to the topic of this post: Doming resin.

Doming resins are basically just epoxy, but there are some important things to consider before you choose one that is appropriate for your project, and there are some helpful tips that we’ll share with you to help you as your work with this medium.

Now, as mentioned, doming resin is just epoxy. But what should you be looking for as you collect your supplies for your next great project? Well, as you may know, the defining property of epoxy is that it consists of two parts, that when mixed, form an incredibly strong compound. And, as we discussed in our piece about epoxy spray paint, the amount of time it takes to cure is a very important item of information.

Before you begin working with doming resin, you need to ask yourself how much time you need before the epoxy becomes “unworkable,” that is, before it cures into a state that can no longer be manipulated. This is all determined by the hardener, which is often referred to as the “Part B.”

Epoxies can be found that cure in as little as 5 minutes, or as much as several hours. Furthermore, you can influence how long it takes by altering the temperature in your working environment. If you want to speed things up, turn up the thermostat. If you’d like to maximize your working time, do your work in the coldest temperature that you can stand.

If you’re looking for a great all-purpose doming resin epoxy I usually recommend System Three’s General Purpose Resin. It’s top quality, and their customer service reps are as friendly as they come.

Bathroom Furniture Ideas

The bathroom is an essential part of a home. It is where you can take comfort by washing yourself clean and grooming yourself. Therefore, it is important that you pay close attention to its design and the furniture that goes in it. Here are some tips to consider:

1. Choose smaller furniture products for smaller bathroom spaces. It will make them look more proportional and gives extra space for you to go about your business.
2. Hanging or wall-mounted cabinets take advantage of the unused spaces on your wall and provide more storage for your toiletries and other things.
3. Consider a recessed (sunk in) medicine cabinet to make your bathroom look better.
4. If you have no vanity unit, install your recessed medicine cabinet with a mirror on its surface over your sink instead.
5. Choose contemporary style vanity furniture for your bathroom if you want a traditional look with a touch of modernity.
6. If you have a small bathroom, go for a compact vanity unit instead.
7. Say yes to a floor-to-ceiling cabinet for storage of your linens and towels. You can also transform its middle part into a mini entertainment station where you can place your television, record player, or stereo unit.
8. Open shelves are great for displaying your small products such as bottles of cologne, perfume, oils, etc. You can also decorate your bathroom with scented candles and potted flowers on the open shelves.
9. Towel racks are great for hanging your towels and washcloths to dry. These racks save you time from constantly folding your towels back into the shelves every after use.
10. Wicker shelves and cabinets come in vibrant colors of pink, blue, yellow, etc. It is wise to purchase wicker shelves if you want lots of colors in your bathroom.
11. Glass shelves come in different sizes and shapes. You can have them tucked in a corner for extra storage. They look modern and very stylish. Choose the thicker glass because they are sturdier and less prone to breakage.
12. A bathroom stool or chair is ideal to be placed in front of your vanity in case you like putting your make up on seated. You can also place them on any dry corner of your bathroom. There are other things you do in the bathroom that takes a long time like styling your hair with a curling or straightening iron and waiting for the bathtub to fill. A chair or a stool can come in handy at these times.
13. For every furniture that you are considering to buy, make sure it goes with the rest of the bathroom. You do not want it to look misplaced.
14. Consider the quality and manufacturer of the furniture. You do not want to pay on something that will last you for only a year.
15. Be sure that the furniture is within your budget.
16. Wooden furniture units should be kept dry because they can absorb water.
17. Keep your furniture products clean and polished so that they can last longer.

The bathroom is an essential part of a home. It is where you can take comfort by washing yourself clean and grooming yourself. Therefore, it is important that you pay close attention to its design and the bathroom furniture that goes in it.

10 Questions on Bosch Dishwashers

I love Bosch dishwashers. I mean that. I really love ‘em. They look great, are made well and I rarely ever have a customer complain about them post-sale.

They are also extremely flexible from a price-perspective, with dishwasher models in the $500′s that can fit into the tightest of budgets, to the 800 Plus Series models that are comfortable in trophy kitchens. Bosch has an offering for EVERYONE.

As I am constantly fielding queries about Bosch dishwashers here are some of the more common questions I receive about them. The process of buying a dishwasher isn’t as streamlined as it once was and with all the info and opinions brought forth by the Web, that leads to more confusion. Hopefully this helps. Read the following Q & A and if you have additional questions send them in.

Q. Why Are My Dishes Still Wet When the Cycle is Over?

A. You have to use Jet Dry to get a Bosch (or other European dishwasher) to perform at its max capacity.

No Jet-Dry means wet dishes folks.

Q. I’m on a budget and only have about $600 max to spend. Can I still get a Bosch or should I be focused on a “landlord special” from Frigidaire?

A. No need for the landlord special!!! You need to check out Bosch’s Ascenta Evolution series. This is Bosch’s introductory line which has very mild price points. Go with black or white. They are all NSF certified to eliminate 99% of bacteria and are still relatively quiet at around 50-53 decibels.

Q. I only buy American. Show me a GE.

A. Bosch is owned by a German conglomerate but the majority of their dishwashers are made in the US, so you are supporting US workers when you buy a Bosch. German Engineering + American Manufacturing Muscle = Killer Combo!

Q. Bosch makes too many dishwashers…800 series, 500 series, Integra, Evolution..I’m confused.

A. Focus on the sweet spot – that’s the Bosch 500 Series, specifically the Integra line. The SHX45 or SHX68 are beasts and you can get into them for less than a grand…if you’re doing business with the right dealer.

The bring it all – Energy Star certification, quiet, hidden controls…yum.

Q. I want a third rack for cutlery silverware. This means I need to buy a Miele, correct?

A. Nope. Bosch offers the third rack in their 800 Plus series. But remember – you need to snap each piece of silverware in. No throwing pieces in there and letting the dw run.

Q. I want an 18″ dw in stainless. Does Bosch make one?

A. Yes they do but you have to order a stainless panel kit separately.

Q. Are Bosch dishwashers prone to repair?

A. Listen, no brand is perfect. Bosch will have its share of hiccups as will everyone else. I can tell you that they are probably more reliable than most and most importantly when they do have a noted problem (as when they had their dishwasher recall a few years ago), Bosch was very proactive in protecting consumers and remedying the problem.

Q. Nothing grosses me out more than a kitchen covered in stainless steel. Can I panel my Bosch dishwasher so it matches my cabinets?

A. Yes you can. Look for Integra models that start with the prefix “SHV” or “SRV” if you’re looking for an 18″ dishwasher.

Q. How many different handle options does Bosch offer?

A. Technically two, but I’m going to say three…the original curved handle, a tubular handle that matches the SubZero classic handle, and you can use your own handle if you are buying an SHV model.

Q. What does Consumer Reports think of Bosch dishwashers?

A. They dig ‘em. Last time I checked, 2 of the top 3 rated dishwashers in CR were made by Bosch.

This is brand that stands behind their owners. If you are shopping for a dishwasher, buy a Bosch dishwasher!

A Rustic Home Patio – 9 Handy Heritage Hints

There’s something about the rustic look that makes an area not only look but feel warm and inviting. Turn your outdoor patio or entertaining area into a treasure trove of yesteryear with some simple solutions to brighten up the dullest space by using some of these ideas.

1. Rustic outdoor furniture

Transform the area instantly with the use of wood or wrought iron furniture. Old and worn out timber pieces can be neatened up with a light sanding, followed by a rich stain and a coat of varnish.

Wrought iron benches, love seats and tables scattered around the patio provide additional seating for informal gatherings. Create your own rustic furniture with logs and leather.

2. Ornaments or plaques

Liven up the walls with some relics from the past. Wire candle holders will also add to the atmosphere for night time entertaining.

Get creative with those bits and pieces you were going to throw away. Take an old clock and put a timber or cane frame around it. Hang a weathervane or bird feeder from the rafters of the veranda.

3. Heritage colours

It is no accident that heritage buildings give a sense of stepping back in time. Using the accepted heritage colours on painted surfaces gives a genuine feeling of the past. Use colours such as clotted cream, mission brown or rivergum green to brighten up an old dresser.

4. Wind chimes

Wind chimes not only look appealing they have the added benefit of filling the outdoor patio area with sound.

Make your own with heavy pipes and wooden chucks or hefty hollowed out bamboo poles.

5. Straw and bamboo furnishings

Floor mats or blinds made from straw and bamboo are pleasing to the eye and have practical uses as well. Position a blind to protect from the afternoon sun. Use straw or cane matting as placemats or drink coasters on the table.

Fill some cane baskets with pine cones, pot pouri or other seed pods.

6. Plants

Plants in clay or terracotta pots or hanging baskets will remind you of your childhood holidays spent with grandparents or weekends in the country.

Train vines and creepers along a wrought iron trellis or arches. or hanging baskets will remind you of your childhood holidays spent with grandparents or weekends in the country.

7. Lighting fixtures

Keep it old with wrought iron frames that use iron cups for encasing the light fixtures or use candles in wire holders hung along the edges of the veranda. Scour the second had shops for others cast offs. You’ll be surprised what a quick clean and fresh coat of paint can achieve. Add a new shade in nostalgic fabric and tassels.

8. Garden Bridge

Wooden bridges over fish ponds can give any yard an instant rustic feel. Use recyled hardwood timbers for the hand rails and railway sleepers for the floor. Bridge kits can be bought on line if you want to build your own. Not only do bridges provide a walkway from one side of the pond to the other but they are aesthetically pleasing to the eye and create a focal point while looking out from your patio.

9. Handcrafted items

Nothing says rustic as well as handcrafted items. Use left over scraps of fabric or timber to create wall plaques and table ornaments. Line an old cane basket with a hand sewn placemat as a bread warmer or hand the drinks around on a tray made out of wooden triangular off cuts. The internet is a great source for ideas on hand made goods or head down to any charity fete if you’re not so handy yourself.

What about a timber or wrought iron wine rack hanging on the wall or ceramic statues on timber shelving? Don’t stop with these nine ideas to create a rustic look for your outdoor patio. The only limits are your imagination.

How Do I Pay For a Home Renovation?

Home renovation financing has matured into one of the most competitive aspects of today’s mortgage market, and equity-rich homeowners are benefiting from an unparalleled degree of flexibility and options.

When the client tells how they plan to spend and we will tell them what is the best value and the right product. Like most lenders has an extensive menu of options for those planning home makeovers, plus seasonal promotions and incentives that can sweeten the deal. For instance, if you are planning a small fix-up or improvement, such as $5,000 to $10,000 worth of paint, carpeting and appliances, it may be wise to use a premium credit card for the initial purpose to accumulate travel or merchandise points. Then, before the credit bill is due, you can take out a lower-cost personal loan or equity loan to pay it off.

Advantage of credit cards is that a warranty is offered on purchases, so there is some extra protection. For mid-size and larger projects, any- thing over $10,000 right up to six figures, the best bet is to use an equity line of credit. Based on your personal credit rating, amounts of up to 80 per cent of the equity in the home can be borrowed, in some cases even higher. For example, if your house was valued at $580,000 and you had a $170,000 mortgage, you could borrow $384,000 to fund a renovation. There is also Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation mortgage insurance available that can increase the loan-to-value-ratio. The advantage of such credit lines is that you only pay interest on the amount of the money that is actually used, and the credit lines also offer flexibility in the case of cost overruns during a renovation. There are even credit cards linked to the line of credit for immediate access. Home equity loans are normally available at about two points above prime rates, but lower rates are available for those with a strong credit history. Other major lenders will sometimes even lend money on renovations that exceed the equity in the home. This is based on the future appraised value of the home once the renovations are complete, according to a professional appraisal, which the homeowner pays for.

Energy incentives

There are also instances where someone having a legal rental suite renovated into their house can qualify for lending based, at least partly, on the rental income. Only half of the rental income is normally counted as personal income. If you are tying energy savings into your renovation project, there are incentives to make financing easier. To qualify, you need to make renovations recommended under the federal governments ecoENERGY Retrofit program. These renovations must achieve at least a five-point improvement in your home’s energy efficiency rating CMHC has also added environmentally friendly features to its mortgage loan insurance. If you use CMHC insured financing to make energy-saving renovations or renovate your existing home to make it more energy-efficient, a 10 per cent refund on the Insurance premium may be available. You could also have the added flexibility of a longer amortization to a maximum of 40 years, significantly reducing your monthly payments.

What is Infill and Durafill?

Synthetic grass is engineered to be long lasting and durable for several years. Artificial turf manufacturers are constantly improving the composition of turf products to meet high quality expectations. A significant component used to maintain the quality of synthetic grass is infill. Infill consists of pebble-like granules that are spread below the turf surface in between grass blades, acting as a cushioning layer. Infill also helps to keep synthetic grass blades upright and standing. There are artificial grass products on the market that do not require infill, stating that it is not necessary. However, these non-infill turf products are not long lasting and can wear out quickly without the presence of a cushioning and supporting infill layer. Also, the appearance of non-infill synthetic turf can be flat, since polyethylene blades have a natural tendency to remain flat without infill. Infill proves to be a necessary component for synthetic grass of all purposes.

Rubber, sand, or a mixture of both make up artificial turf infill. Rubber is granulated and can be recycled from old tires for infill. Sand is ground into round silica to prevent abrasiveness. This helps to act as a cushion without creating a surface that is too hard. This cushioning is significant to all types of synthetic turf, including sports and field turf that undergoes high-level performance and activity. Since several field sports, such as soccer, require surface contact with cleats, rubber granules keep infill from being moved around by sharp or pronged footwear. A softer layer is also crucial for turf used in yards, for families and pets alike. Infill helps with turf drainage systems, allowing rain and other liquids to easily permeate. While rubber infill is good, a mix of rubber and sand can be more beneficial. However, the best infill on the market today is Durafill. While it is usually more expensive than rubber or rubber and sand infill, it proves to be the most ideal.

The most technologically advanced infill system on the market today is Durafill. Durafill is unique because it does not degrade over time, maintaining pellet solidity and structure. Thus, the infill never needs to be replaced once it has been placed on the turf. Pet-friendly turf benefits from Durafill because it does not absorb pet urine or waste. This helps pet turf to deflect unpleasant odors. Durafill’s ability to create permeability for artificial grass ensures that collection of rain, water, and other liquids does not build up within the grass. This prevents the growth of bacteria and spores within the artificial turf.

Durafill meets eco-friendly standards and is not composed of heavy metals, silica dust, or zinc. The abstaining from using these materials also reduces health risks related to zinc, chromium, lead, and other heavy metals. It does not absorb heat and will not contribute to hot temperatures on turf surfaces. Durafill continues to be the leading infill system on the synthetic grass market today, helping to preserve and keep artificial turf looking and feeling the most natural.

Tiger Express Landscape is a manufacturer and supplier of artificial turf and synthetic grass for residential and commercial uses. Our Artificial Turf can be used for landscaping, golf greens and sports fields.

Crucial Home Security Tips For Twenty-Somethings

For a lot of people in their twenties, it sometimes seems that worrying about more adult topics is becoming part of daily life faster than ever. With a bit more of a bleak situation in terms of the job market, and the world of purchasing one’s own home and condo suddenly turned upside down, it seems as though a lot of people between the ages of 20 and 30 might find themselves renting for a lot longer than before. And while this might not mean worrying about the various different ways you have to think of protecting your own home or condo when you are about to be an owner, it does not mean that paying attention to home security on top of all of your other concerns isn’t a worthwhile way to spend one’s time.

For those people in their 20s these days, there is so much going on that taking the time to stop and think about something as simple or banal as your home security can feel like something that doesn’t need to be moved to the top of one’s to-do list. After all, there are jobs to apply for, romances to cultivate, and degrees to obtain. If you just happen to be renting with some friends, how is thinking more about your home and its safety going to be something that should occupy more of your time than trying to get employed?

The most important thing to keep in mind while you are starting to live on your own for the first time is that home security is not something that has to take up a bunch of your time: you just have to learn the right ways to think about it. This means knowing that there are simple things to focus on, rather than obsessing over every little detail or simply not caring at all. If you can remember that sharing a house or apartment means that there should be clear communication about obvious things, like being sure that windows and doors are closed and locked and home alarm systems turned on, then you can save yourself a lot of time and stress later. These simple steps are a great place to start when it comes to rethinking your security.

If you are living with a lot of other people, like so many people during and right after college are doing, then you are also going to have to think about how to manage sharing a living space with others, sometimes friends and sometimes strangers, and making sure that you aren’t the one who gets stuck cleaning up all of the literal and figurative messes. No matter how you feel about other people’s parties, the truth is that the biggest way to jeopardize your home security is to let a bunch of people trample your home. If you are somehow ending up living in a party house, then it is crucial that you invest in a padlock for your bedroom door at the very least.

While it might not feel like something you should be thinking about, the truth is that spending just a little bit of time worrying about how to better secure your living space means the difference between coming home to all of your possessions, or having to deal with something even more stressful than figuring out next semester’s schedule. So take the right steps now instead of waiting until it is too late.

No matter what your age, ADT home alarms are always a good idea, especially if you want to keep your apartment or house safe.
